Belagavi City Police Launch Special Inspection Drive on Clubs and Recreation Centres
Belagavi: In the wake of recent incidents reported in the city, the Belagavi City Police have intensified monitoring of clubs, gymkhanas, and other recreational centres. The Office of the Police Commissioner has directed all Police Station Inspectors to conduct a comprehensive inspection of every club operating within their respective jurisdictions.
As part of the drive, police are preparing a detailed list of all clubs and entertainment centres and verifying whether they possess valid licences and all mandatory statutory permissions. At locations where card games or similar activities are conducted, the management is being served with written instructions outlining the conditions prescribed under the directions of the Karnataka High Court and other applicable laws. Acknowledgement of receipt is also being obtained from the respective managements.
The major conditions imposed by the Police Department include mandatory installation of CCTV cameras at the entrance and gaming areas, preservation of CCTV footage for a minimum of 15 days, issuance of identity cards to all members, prohibition of participation by non-members, a complete ban on gambling, betting, and wagering, and full cooperation with police inspections.
All police stations have been instructed to submit their inspection reports to the Office of the Police Commissioner within 10 days. If any violations are detected during the inspections, the matter will be reported to the concerned licensing authority with a recommendation for cancellation of the licence, apart from initiating appropriate legal action against the violators.
The Belagavi City Police clarified that the objective of this special inspection drive is not to harass lawfully operating clubs and recreational centres. Instead, the initiative is aimed at preventing illegal gambling, betting, and other unlawful activities that may disturb public order and ensuring strict compliance wit
h the law.
