Trump Repeats Claim About India-Pakistan Ceasefire, Adds New Details.

Former US President Donald Trump has once again claimed that he helped India and Pakistan stop fighting by using trade threats. Speaking at an event in Miami, Florida, he said that during his time in office, he stopped eight wars in just nine months — and one of them was between India and Pakistan.

Trump said that when he learned both countries were preparing for war, he told their leaders that the US would not make any trade deals with them unless they agreed to peace. According to him, this shocked both sides. He claims that after this warning, the two nations agreed to a ceasefire the very next day.

Trump said proudly, “A day later, I got a call saying, ‘We made peace.’ I said, ‘Thank you. Let’s do trade.’ Tariffs did that!”

Tariffs on India and Pakistan

Trump said his trade tariffs were the reason behind the peace. Under his trade policies, Pakistan faced a 19% tariff, while India was hit harder — first with a 25% tariff and later with a 50% tariff. The extra charges were because of India’s purchase of Russian oil and its role in the BRICS group, which Trump claimed was acting against American interests.

India Denies Trump’s Role

India has strongly denied that Trump had any role in bringing peace. Prime Minister Narendra Modi told Trump directly that there were no talks between the two countries about any US involvement or trade deals related to the ceasefire.

India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed this, saying, “During that time, there were no discussions about US mediation or trade deals between India and Pakistan.”

The tension between India and Pakistan had increased after India launched Operation Sindoor, a major military strike against terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. This action came after a terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam in April, which killed 26 tourists.
