A shocking daylight robbery took place at Paris’s famous Louvre Museum on Sunday, where thieves stole eight priceless royal jewels. The entire heist was caught on camera, showing a man cutting through a glass display case while visitors walked by without realizing what was happening.
The video, shared by France’s BFMTV, shows the suspect calmly cutting the case and stealing the jewels in just a few minutes.
‘Like a Hollywood Movie’: Robbery Took Only 7 Minutes
Witnesses described the robbery as something out of a movie. According to reports, four thieves carried out the crime, which lasted only seven minutes. They entered the Apollo Gallery, which displays France’s royal crown jewels, about 40 minutes after the museum opened.
The robbers used angle grinders to cut open two high-security glass cases and threatened security guards with their tools.
Officials said the gang seemed well-trained and possibly foreign, and the incident exposed serious security lapses in French museums.
What Was Stolen
The stolen items included:
A sapphire diadem, necklace, and earring belonging to 19th-century queens Marie-Amélie and Hortense
An emerald necklace and earrings from Empress Marie-Louise, wife of Napoleon Bonaparte
A reliquary brooch, Empress Eugénie’s diadem, and her large corsage-bow brooch
One jewel, Empress Eugénie’s crown, was reportedly dropped and damaged during the thieves’ escape.
