“In today’s world filled with hate, Mysuru Dasara is a call for peace,” says writer Banu Mushtaq.

International Booker Prize-winning writer Banu Mushtaq inaugurated the famous Mysuru Dasara festival on September 22. She said the festival is a symbol of Karnataka’s unity and shared culture.

Dasara, also known as “Nada Habba” (State Festival), began with traditional and religious celebrations in the “city of palaces.” This year, the festival will last 11 days, ending on Vijayadashami (October 2). The celebrations showcase Karnataka’s culture, traditions, and royal heritage.

The Dasara festival has been celebrated since 1610, and every year it includes a wide range of religious, cultural, and community events.

Controversy and Court Decision

There was some controversy over the State government’s decision to invite Ms. Mushtaq for the inauguration. However, the Supreme Court dismissed a petition against her participation, clearing the way for the celebrations.
