Shubman Gill Feels “Guilty” After Being Made India’s ODI Captain.

Shubman Gill has replaced Rohit Sharma as India’s ODI captain ahead of the three-match series against Australia. Former cricketer Mohammad Kaif believes that Gill feels a bit guilty about taking over the captaincy.

Rohit Sharma, in his last match as India captain, led India to Champions Trophy victory. But after Rohit stepped away from Tests, the BCCI decided it was time to give the leadership to young Shubman Gill, grooming him as India’s next all-format captain, especially with an eye on the 2027 World Cup.

Gill’s first series as Test captain went well, with India drawing the 5-Test series in England 2-2. But his ODI debut as captain was disappointing, as Australia won the three-match series 2-0.

Kaif said that Gill must feel the weight of responsibility, knowing that Rohit Sharma had done nothing wrong as captain. Kaif added, “When Gill goes to sleep, he must be thinking about Rohit bhai — how he did so well, won trophies, yet was replaced, and now people back me as captain. He must be feeling guilty about that.”
