PWD Starts Major Repair Work on Belagavi–Goa Road via Chorla.

The Public Works Department (PWD) in Belagavi has finally started the long-awaited recarpeting of the Belagavi–Goa road through Chorla. This comes as good news for travellers because the road had become very bad in many places. The aim is to finish the work before the busy travel season and the upcoming Winter Session of the Karnataka Legislature.

As a first step, the contractor has created a temporary alternative route near the Kusmalli Bridge on the Malaprabha River. This diversion, which began today, will help vehicles move smoothly while the remaining bridge work is completed. The bridge construction was delayed earlier this year because the monsoon arrived early, making it difficult to build embankments on both sides. Heavy vehicles were especially affected.

Along with finishing the bridge, the PWD will also repair several damaged patches on the Belagavi–Goa road via Chorla. Even though the 46 km stretch from Peeranwadi to Chorla was rebuilt earlier, repeated damage has made fresh repairs necessary.
