Belagavi-based startup Hoopoe Bikes is making waves in the electric mobility world with its smart, eco-friendly electric bicycles designed for teenagers. The company has won the MeitY GENESIS Entrepreneur-in-Residence (EIR) Grant worth ₹10 lakhs and has joined the Deshpande Startups GENESIS Cohort 2 program.
Out of 400+ startups from across India, Hoopoe Bikes was chosen as one of the top six for its innovative idea and social impact.
What is the GENESIS Program?
The GENESIS (Gen-Next Support for Innovative Startups) program is an initiative by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). It supports early-stage startups that use technology to create positive social and environmental change.
The program’s official launch took place at Deshpande Startups, Hubballi, in the presence of Dr. Desh Deshpande, a globally known entrepreneur and philanthropist, along with founders from across India.
Empowering Young Riders
Founded by Maboof Mulla, Hoopoe Bikes is creating India’s safest, most stylish, and long-range electric bicycles — specially built for teenagers.
The bikes are license-free, easy to ride, and made with advanced safety systems, lightweight design, and smart connected technology. The goal is to encourage young riders to travel safely while protecting the environment.
After showcasing the bikes at Techlaration KEDM (Suvarna Saudha) and the BETCA Tech Meet, the company received amazing feedback and already secured 250 pre-orders even before its official launch.
A Big Step Forward
Winning the MeitY GENESIS EIR Grant and joining Deshpande Startups is a major boost for Hoopoe Bikes. With this support, the team plans to speed up product development, technology upgrades, and market expansion across India.
