Heavy rain hit Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) on Monday morning, bringing relief from the heat but also causing waterlogging and traffic jams in many areas.
Weather Forecast
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the region will see cloudy skies with light rain or drizzle throughout the day. Authorities have issued alerts for different parts of NCR:
Delhi and Gurugram are under an orange alert till 2:55 p.m.
Noida and Ghaziabad are under a yellow alert.
Waterlogging and Traffic Disruptions
The heavy showers led to waterlogging at several locations. One of the worst-hit spots was the Zakhira underpass in Delhi, which got flooded and caused major inconvenience to commuters. Many roads reported slow traffic due to accumulated rainwater, adding to the morning rush-hour troubles.
Airlines Issue Advisory
With the downpour affecting road travel and flight schedules, IndiGo Airlines released a passenger advisory. The airline said:
Continuous rain and thunderstorms in Delhi may cause delays in flight operations.
Passengers should check their flight status on the IndiGo website or mobile app before heading to the airport.
Travelers should leave home early for their flights, considering slower road traffic due to waterlogging.
