Belagavi to Start 77 New Development Works Worth ₹26.51 Crore.

A total of 77 development works will soon start in Belagavi city. These works are funded through the ward budget and the Mayor’s Fund, and the City Corporation has issued tenders worth ₹26.51 crore. The tender process will finish by the end of November, and after that, contractors will be selected and work will begin in every ward.

Out of the total money:

₹25.51 crore is from the ward budget

₹1 crore is from the Mayor’s Fund

According to the Corporation, corporators from the ruling group get ₹50 lakh each for development in their ward, while opposition corporators get ₹33 lakh each. The Mayor gets ₹1 crore to use as needed. Because ruling corporators get more funds, opposition members are demanding equal allocation.

At first, officials planned to combine many works into a few big tender packages. But the Municipal Contractors’ Association opposed this. They wanted each work to be tendered separately so that small, local contractors can also take part. The Mayor and Commissioner agreed, so now all 77 works have separate tenders.

The tenders were issued on November 6. Both ruling and opposition corporators submitted proposals, but more proposals from the ruling group were approved. Even though the opposition raised complaints, the works — mainly roads, drainage, and other civic improvements — will now move ahead.
