Belagavi Fake Call Centre Case Handed Over to CID for Deeper Investigation.

The major fake call centre busted on Bauxite Road, Belagavi, has now been officially transferred to the CID (Criminal Investigation Department) in Bengaluru for a more detailed probe. The CID will use advanced cyber tools and work with international agencies to track the full network.

How the Racket Was Exposed

Belagavi City Police had earlier raided an illegal call centre that was pretending to be U.S. customer-service staff and law-enforcement officials. Their aim was to cheat American citizens.
The FIR was filed on November 11, 2025, after a tip-off from the Internal Security Division and an anonymous source. Based on the complaint from ASI L.S. Chinagundi, police invoked several IPC and IT Act sections.

33 People Arrested, 70+ Devices Seized

During the raid, a team led by ACP Raghu J and Inspectors B.R. Gaddekar and U.S. Avati detained 33 people—28 men and 5 women—from different states.
Police seized:

37 laptops

38 mobile phones

3 Wi-Fi routers

These were used to run the fake call centre.
Out of those arrested, 28 were sent to judicial custody on November 12. Later, two more—Aijaz Khan (owner of the rented building) and Tausif Mohammad Sab Sheikh—were arrested for helping run the racket.

Fraud Targeted People in the U.S.

Police said the racket had been active since March 2025. The accused called American citizens through internet-based phones (VoIP) and pretended to be officials. They scared victims by threatening legal action and tricked them into paying money.
A scan of the seized devices showed attempts to contact over 95 U.S. nationals, proving it was an international fraud. Since victims are from another country, police may need help from INTERPOL.

Why CID Is Now Handling the Case

The case involves suspects from many states, victims from another country, and complicated digital evidence. Because of this, Belagavi Police requested the CID to take over.
The DG & IGP approved the transfer.

Belagavi Police Commissioner Bhushan Borse said the CID’s specialised cyber-forensic skills will help uncover the bigger network behind the fraud.
